If any of this feels familiar,
you’re in the right place

  • Anxiety or low mood is quietly taking over more of your days, and “just relax” isn’t working
  • Your child or teenager is withdrawn, angry, or struggling, and you don’t know how to reach them
  • You’re worried about your teen’s eating and feel powerless to help
  • Your relationship keeps hitting the same argument on repeat, and closeness feels harder to find
  • Your family feels tense, disconnected, or stuck in conflict
  • You feel like something deeper is going on, with your child or with you, and you want answers
  • You’re exhausted from “trying harder” without anything really changing

It’s easy to believe you’re failing. But maybe you’re just worn out.

Why “pushing through” hasn’t worked

You’ve probably told yourself to try harder. Talk better. Wait it out. But whether it’s anxiety, your teen, an eating disorder, or your relationship, here’s what I’ve learned in 20 years:

You’re not failing. You’re stuck in a pattern. And patterns don’t break with effort. They break when someone helps you see them.

When you feel overwhelmed or unsafe, at home or inside your own head, your body takes over. And it always looks the same:

Worry & overthinking
Withdrawal
Conflict & escalation
Shutdown

Real change starts when someone who’s seen it a thousand times names your pattern out loud.

None of this is a quick fix. The work that follows is genuinely hard. But it’s hard work that actually goes somewhere, instead of the exhausting kind that keeps you in the same place.

What is the free consultation?

A private 15-minute phone call with me, Glenn Munt. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years. It’s not therapy that drags on for months. It’s not surface-level advice. It’s a real conversation about what’s going on with you.

What to expect from your first session

If the idea of a first session makes you a little nervous, good. That means it matters to you. Nearly everyone who sits down with me feels it, and it almost always settles within the first few minutes. Here’s how I run it, so nothing catches you off guard.

You don’t have to prepare anything or have the right words ready. I lead the conversation, gently, and leave you plenty of room to talk.
There’s nothing you can say that will shock me. After more than 20 years, I’ve heard it all, and I’m not here to judge you.
You don’t need a crisis or a “big enough” reason to be here. Everyday stress, worry, and feeling stuck are reason enough for me.
If you get emotional, that’s completely fine. Most people tell me it feels like a release, not a setback.
We go at your pace. You’re allowed to slow me down, or tell me you just want me to listen first.
You’ll leave knowing how I work and what a sensible next step looks like for you, whether that’s with me or somewhere else.

Most people tell me the same thing afterward: they feel lighter, like they’d finally said it out loud to someone.

But what do I even say?

You don’t need a script, a diagnosis, or a tidy story. “I’m not really sure where to start” is how a lot of these calls begin, and it’s a perfectly good place to start.

Just tell me, in plain words, what’s been going on. If it comes out as a bit of a jumble, that’s alright. Making sense of the jumble is my job, not yours.

I ask the questions. All you have to do is answer as honestly as you can. Whatever it was that made you book is reason enough to be on the call.

There’s no wrong way to do this. Just pick up when I ring.

Who this is for

Maybe one of these sounds like you:

You’ve been carrying something for a while now, and you’re tired of carrying it on your own.
Someone you love is struggling, and you want to help, but you don’t really know where to start.
Things have got hard around food and eating, whether that’s for you or someone close to you, and you’re scared of getting it wrong.
You can feel things drifting at home, and you don’t want to just watch it happen.
There’s a big decision in front of you, and you’d give anything for a straight answer before you make it.
You’ve tried a few things already. You’re done guessing at what might work.
You just want to talk to someone who gets it, and walk away knowing what to do next.

That’s what this fifteen minutes is for.
No pressure, no big commitment, just a real conversation to help you figure out where to go from here.

“Glenn was easy to talk to and confident he could help us to improve our relationship. The exercises we practiced in sessions were really helpful and focused on teaching us other, more productive ways to resolve our issues. Our relationship has never been better or closer. We highly recommend Glenn and Thinking Families.”

Here’s the worst that can happen

You spend 15 minutes on the phone. It’s free. You hang up knowing more than you did before.

That’s the downside.

The upside? I name the pattern you’re stuck in and tell you straight whether I can help. If you want to keep going, sessions come with Medicare rebates, flexible hours and weekends.

No pressure to continue. No lock-in. No awkward upsell.

Either way, you win. You literally cannot lose.

Every reason you’re about to talk yourself out of this

I’ve heard them all. Here’s my honest answer to each one.

“Will therapy actually be hard?”

Honestly? Yes. Therapy is bloody hard work. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

But here’s the thing. What you’re doing right now is hard too. The difference is, the hard work of therapy actually gets you somewhere. In the long term, you know you’ll feel better. Staying stuck just gets you more of the same.

And the call itself? That part’s easy. It’s 15 minutes of talking. Start there.

“I should be able to handle this myself”

You’ve been handling it yourself. That’s exactly why you’re this tired.

You wouldn’t set your own broken arm. Getting help from someone who’s done this for 20 years isn’t weakness. It’s just the faster way through.

“It’s not bad enough yet”

You don’t need to hit rock bottom to deserve help. In fact, the earlier you call, the easier the work is.

Waiting until it’s “bad enough” just means doing this later, from a worse starting point, more worn out than you are now.

“What’s this going to cost me?”

The call costs nothing. Zero. And you don’t owe anything after it.

If you decide to book sessions later, Medicare and private health rebates can cover a good chunk. I’ll tell you exactly what you’d pay on the call, so there are no surprises.

“I don’t have time for this”

The call is 15 minutes, and I call you, at a time you pick. Booking takes under a minute.

If you go ahead with sessions, there are flexible hours and weekend appointments. Think about how much time the problem itself is already costing you every week.

“Talking to a stranger feels weird”

It does. For about two minutes. Then it’s usually a relief.

Read the reviews above. “Easy to talk to” comes up every single time. And sometimes a stranger is exactly what you need. Someone with no side to take and nothing to gain from telling you anything but the truth.

“I’ve tried counselling before and it didn’t work”

Then you already know the wrong fit wastes your time. That’s exactly why this starts with a free call, so you can hear how I work before you spend a cent.

If I’m not the right fit, I’ll tell you that too, and point you somewhere better. No hard feelings.

“My partner won’t come” / “My teen refuses to talk to anyone”

You don’t need them on board to make the call. Come alone.

I’ve spent 20 years working with reluctant partners and teens who “don’t do therapy.” I’ll tell you how to approach it. And often, one person changing the pattern is enough to shift the whole thing.

“Is it confidential?”

Yes. Everything you say on the call stays between us. Same as it would in a session.

Your details are only used to arrange the call. Nothing else.

“Do I need a referral or mental health care plan?”

Not for the call. Just book it. No GP visit, no paperwork.

If you go ahead with sessions and want Medicare rebates, I’ll walk you through exactly what you need. It’s simpler than you think.

“What if I don’t know what to say?”

Then say that. “I don’t really know where to start” is how half these calls begin.

I ask the questions. Your only job is to answer honestly. There’s no way to do it wrong.
